see from the papers are fighting hard and successfully along the whole from from Switzerland to the sea.  I am myself in a comfortable billet in a large town so I have much to be thankful for.  My work is going on well and increasing in responsibility and I find myself treated with much kindness and consideration.

Please thank Lindley for a very fine round cake he sent me in a tin.  It was very good and we all enjoyed it very much.  Leffie's last letter only took 3 weeks to come which is much quicker than usual.
