I am not afraid to make the experiment.

By the end of this year we ought to know pretty well how we stand in the war and how much the Russians have cost us and the USA have benefitted us.

Joe Bridgman who has been to England on leave should be back with us today. We shall all be glad to see him. Now I must go on with my work and leave you for a time. With heaps of love from your only second son
