The size of some of the trench mortars used on both sides is apalling & the shock of the concussions made by the explosions of the largest bombs nothing short of terrific. We started with machines which threw bombs a little larger than hand grenades a little farther than a hand grenade could reach. Now we throw a 400 lb filled with the most powerful explosives nearly two miles. We seem to be able to outrange Fritz completely & our accuracy is good.
