My dear brother
There is much to say to you if I can only remember it. First of all I am not a Capt. I am more likely to be made a Major than a Capt. & just now I am not at all likely to be made anything except a private. It is my misfortune to be held responsible for the absence of a most valuable & secret doct of wh. I was nominally the custodian when I was acting as Adjutant - I am not morally to blame for its loss could not possibly be attributed to any neglect on my part - It is quite possible that I may be up before a Court martial or at all events a Court of Inquiry. It does not worry me on my own account but I don't want to see the Bn get in "bad" with the new Div. Commander who is our old friend Burstall.
Can you imagine me a Adjutant taking the Bn for a Divl inspection for that is what I had to do the other day?
However now young Major
