This last tour in the trenches was nothing like that. It was monotonous & dull. Probably we have still no blankets or change of clothes but that doesn't matter.
Our work is done & we don't care a damn for anything but just fall asleep.
In the morning aching and stiff but quite cheerful we move on again.
This last tour in the trenches was nothing like that. It was monotonous & dull. We had no real casualties but we had a very hard time & have sent more men to the hospital than ever before - The trenches were awful, literally up to the knees in mud & water in many places.
Hot food was almost an impossibility - it rained & froze at nights. I am perfectly well & for the first time since we left the Salient are we getting real rest. We are close to the line & soon shall be back again but meantime all is well.
