I believe this is Friday 29 Sept. We are back again in camp having returned from the frontline about midnight & I find that having been reported killed my effects have been sent in to the Base as dead man's effects.

After making every inquiry I have decided not to cable as the official notification of my death has been cancelled & a cable under such circumstances might cause unnecessary alarm. I don't think I can write anymore about this business now except to say

Some days later
