Dearest Mother,

To-day is another of those cloudless days that spells work for us and I am sitting in the shade of a hut, in my short-sleeves expecting to be sent up in a job any minute. In the meantime I am writing you, though in all probability I won't be able to finish before going up.

I have just finished writing to Mrs. Blomfield one of those letters which are a task and a tax on anyone.
