Information of witnesses since taken and acknowledged on behalf of Our Sovreign Lady the Queen touching the death of John {illegible] at the Court House in the city of Nanaimo District aforesaid in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven before me William Wymond Walkem Esquire of our Her Majesty's [illegible] for the said Province of British Columbia in an inquisition then and there taken on view of the body of the said John [illegible] then and there lying dead as follows to wit:

Rowley Heyland being duly sworn saith - I am mine surveyor for the Vancouver Coal Company - Have made a survey of No. 1 shaft and have a tracing of the survey with me - I produce the tracing. I remember the third of May. The tracing is as nearly as possible a tracing of the survey of the mine as it stood on the third of May. The red arrows show the air currents. The note on the foot explains the different marks on the plan. As a Juryman This plan is from the April book the last survey was made on 15th April.
