The newer officers have not much chance these occasions principally because they are rarely given wrk except under a senior officer who of course being the real leader is entitled to the credit for the work.

Otherwise Joe would probably come in for something but his O.C. who did marvellously will & is entitled to first consideration will probably get a D.S.O. Talking of decorations I saw a Jap in the P.P.C.L.I. with three including the Legion of Honour - Those Japs are splendid looking men - fighters every inch. It may interest you to hear something of my part in the work. Our Battalion was attacking and was [?ed] to take a certain bench & three [small?] parties more to go through & establish outposts. Three officers in our Co. commanded the 3 outpost parties - Joe's Co. attacked on the left & [an?]
