The V.A.D. nurses are the commonest set of gum chewers you would wish to meet anywhere! The common Canadian really is a dreadful person! The bar on board the boat opened up after we left port, but it has since closed for the rest of the trip, as some idiots don't know how to behave themselves when they are allowed a drink. The short time it was open Oliphant & I enjoyed a number of glasses of Boss's Ale & Guiness's Stout what we had really did us good. Last night there was a proper mix up & half the senior officers were properly canned, "disgusting swiggers" as Mother would say, (emphasizing by holding up her first finger so) not exactly life like! Believe me I'll always steer clear of any drinking bouts! Today we had a very nice little service on board, conducted by our little parson Knight from the cathedral. I was glad to be able to join. We have boat drill every day in case of emergency, Oliphant & I have charge
