The Germans are no doubt retreating now, but of course it is no great defeat.  No doubt they are determined to upset all our well-laid plans + disorganize the railways etc so that our offensive will have to be quite different to what we thought but it is good news.  Russia is terribly serious.  I quite hope + believe that what the papers wish to convince us of viz that the war will be prosecuted with greater vigour is true but
