May 20th. High old times prevail around camp now, do as we like & plenty to eat. Some often find coal in a creek and come home saying they have [?] a large [?] but it can't be swallowed by us.

May 21th. Same performances today, hunting bear but us bear to our credit, the cook is the only man in camp working . One of the axemen sits in the same place by cook's fire day after day wonder he does not get stiff.
