Was talking with McDonald of the time he+ I[?] were sent to dig a CT. to the captured Boche[?] trench at Richebourg L'avoue[?] - How we waded in mud knee-deep + had to lie in the long grass, two hours, because the Germans were 'wise' to us, + were continually sending up flares + rapid-fire I was chilled to the bone as I had no greatcoat. That was the night we couldn't get the Trench down[?] on account of water + the buried Boche dead of Autumn 1914 - Ugh!!
